Using this Site–Start Here

The fact that you’re browsing this site means that you are a motivated language-learner, which means you’re already set up for success! Here’s how to get the most out of this site.

The four skills people use in communication are reading, writing, listening, and speaking. As you search for study activities to do, make sure to choose activities from each skill to have balanced learning.

There’s no vocabulary section here (besides the Anki decks), but every activity has chances to increase and practice your vocab in context. If you want to improve vocab in a certain context, work through a certain Topical Conversation Questions topic or picture story with your tutor. If you want to improve flow and how locals actually talk, check out the series or recommended podcasts/shows/etc. pages for good listenings.

You can use the resources here to study or learn, and you can also use them as ideas to do the same thing on your own. For example, you can either read through the transcripts we’ve made of series, or you can try to write your own transcript and then check it with ours or with your tutor.

If you need help finding a tutor, we only put the info of Gulfi tutors who we trust and have experience with, so contact any of them to start tutoring! Whoever you use as your tutor, all of the activities under Tutoring Materials have explanations in Arabic, so you can show your tutor that page so you both understand what to do. That page contains lesson plans and activity ideas for a variety of skills.

If you want some guidance on a certain grammar point, Grammar Help includes short explanations and sometimes practice for some areas where there are commonly asked questions.

If you want to improve your reading and listening—even just for text messages, this page includes both ammia and MSA social media comments and short books—all with the audio included!

If you have any other questions or comments as you browse the site, please send us a message! Happy studying.
